Description
Agbogho Study (2021) is part of Chiizii’s NNI BU OGWU (Food Is Medicine) thesis. Drawn on brown kraft paper, the work forms part of her research process, in which she interprets key elements of her study through her personal drawing style, inflecting her signature to create a distinct visual language.
The study focuses on Agbogho Mmuo, an influential Igbo masquerade that represents Igbo femininity. Chiizii captures the masquerade as it often appears at gatherings, celebrations and festivals, marking the presence of celebration, which is always accompanied by food. The masquerade’s role at events such as the New Yam Festival further underscores its connection to Igbo food culture.
